Elon Musk, owner of the social media platform X (formerly known as Twitter), has responded to accusations that creators are not adequately compensated on the platform. This response comes on the heels of a recent exchange between Musk and YouTube sensation MrBeast.
The catalyst for Musk’s announcement was a post from X user DogeDesigner, boasting that “𝕏 paid over 80,000 creators through the ads revenue sharing program in less than a year” and claiming that “More and more content creators are joining the 𝕏 family.”
In a cryptic reply, Musk stated, “Creator rewards will increase significantly this year.”
The backstory to this development involves a public exchange between Musk and MrBeast at the end of December. MrBeast, with an astronomical 229 million subscribers on YouTube, encouraged his followers on X to watch his latest video. X user DogeDesigner chimed in, urging MrBeast to upload content on X as well. Musk, in a seemingly agreeable manner, responded with a simple “Yeah.”
However, MrBeast, whose videos boast high production costs, retaliated, stating, “My videos cost millions to make, and even if they got a billion views on X, it wouldn’t fund a fraction of it.”
Musk’s recent commitment to significantly increase creator rewards on X has sparked speculation that this may be a direct response to MrBeast’s criticism. The YouTube sensation, known for his extravagant and high-production-value videos, holds substantial influence in the online creator community.
In a subsequent post on X, MrBeast expressed openness to exploring the platform further, stating, “I’m down though to test stuff once monetization is really cranking!”
As the dynamics on X potentially shift with Musk’s commitment to enhancing creator rewards, the question arises: Could this lead to more of MrBeast’s iconic content finding its way onto Musk’s platform in the near future? Only time will tell as the landscape of online content creation continues to evolve.
