A loud explosion near Karachi’s Jinnah International Airport shook the surrounding area today, spreading thick clouds of smoke and leaving multiple people injured. The blast, which occurred in an oil tanker close to the airport, was audible from a considerable distance, causing panic among nearby residents and workers.
According to Express News, the explosion ignited vehicles parked nearby, resulting in intense flames and heavy smoke billowing into the sky. Emergency services quickly responded, with fire brigades battling the blaze and rescuers tending to the injured.
Initial reports indicate that at least six individuals were rushed to Jinnah Hospital Karachi for treatment. The number of those injured is expected to rise as more details emerge.
Police, Rangers, and rescue teams arrived on the scene shortly after the blast, and the area has been cordoned off for investigation. The cause of the explosion is still under investigation, with officials looking into all possible angles.
The Sindh Chief Minister, Syed Murad Ali Shah, has ordered a full investigation into the incident. “Provide detailed information on the nature of the explosion,” he instructed the police chief. He also emphasized ensuring the best possible medical treatment for those injured.
SSP Malir has assured that all senior officers are at the scene, actively investigating the explosion. Meanwhile, Sindh Home Minister Ziaul Hasan Lanjar has directed the police to thoroughly explore all possible causes and ensure the swift transfer of the wounded to hospitals.
