In a landmark decision, the federal government has unveiled substantial amendments to passport regulations, aimed at increasing accessibility and streamlining the issuance process for citizens across the country.
Under the new regulations, passports can now be issued or renewed from any city nationwide, significantly enhancing convenience for applicants. This change is expected to decentralize the passport issuance process and reduce the need for travel to major metropolitan areas.
Additionally, the revised rules simplify payment procedures, allowing fees for all passport categories to be deposited at any branch of the National Bank. This move is designed to facilitate a smoother and more accessible application process.
The Ministry of Interior has already submitted a summary of these amendments to the cabinet. Upon approval, the new system will enable passport issuance in a manner similar to national identity cards, promising a more efficient and user-friendly experience for all applicants.
In response to growing demand and to address the current backlog, authorities have escalated the passport printing process to operate 24/7. Emergency measures have been put in place to expedite the handling of passport requests, including continuous operation even on national holidays.
Director General of Immigration and Passports, Mustafa Jamal Qazi, has mandated round-the-clock operations and has personally visited the production staff to celebrate their hard work. On Independence Day, DG Qazi cut a cake with the team and arranged a special meal to honor their dedication. He emphasized the government’s commitment to ensuring timely and dignified passport issuance, underscoring the importance of enhancing the national passport’s global reputation.
These strategic changes and emergency measures highlight the government’s determination to address the passport crisis and provide efficient, responsive services to all citizens.
