Bisham Police Submits Report to CTD After Deadly Attack on Dasu Hydropower Project
In a swift response to the tragic incident on Tuesday, the Bisham police have taken immediate action by submitting a report to the Counterterrorism Department (CTD) in Swat. The report seeks to initiate legal proceedings against the unidentified individuals responsible for the heinous suicide attack that claimed six lives, including five Chinese nationals.
The attack, which occurred on a bus transporting Chinese engineers working on the Dasu Hydropower Project, involved an explosive-laden Japanese hatchback car. According to investigators, approximately 9 kilograms of explosives were used in the devastating blast.
“We have obtained the close-circuit television (CCTV) camera footage from the bus and are investigating the matter,” stated Bakht Zahir Khan, the station house officer (SHO) of Bisham Police Station.
The CCTV footage retrieved from the scene captured the silver car, used as the weapon in the attack, moving slowly along the Karakoram Highway. The explosion occurred as the bus attempted to overtake the vehicle, leading to the tragic loss of life.
In response to the attack, security measures have been intensified in sensitive areas of Bisham and Dasu. A high-level security contingent, including District Police Officer (DPO) Imran Khan, sub-divisional police officers (SDPOs), CTD investigation teams, and Wapda security officials, has been deployed to the site.
Following the incident, work at the Dasu dam has been temporarily halted. Gezhouba Company, the firm affected by the attack, has suspended its operations and advised Chinese staff to remain in their accommodations until further notice.
China’s ambassador to Pakistan, Jiang Zaidong, paid a visit to the construction camp at the Dasu project to express condolences to the victims. During the visit, a minute of silence was observed, and Mr. Jiang encouraged the morale of the Chinese nationals working on the project.
The CTD investigation team, making significant progress, has reportedly “almost traced the case,” according to DPO Imran Khan.
As investigations continue and security measures are heightened, authorities are committed to ensuring the safety of all personnel involved in the Dasu Hydropower Project.
