A fire broke out in the Tezgam Express on its way to Karachi on Tuesday, causing panic among passengers. The incident occurred near Hyderabad, with flames rapidly engulfing two coaches of the train.
Railway officials confirmed that the fire started due to an electrical short circuit in one of the coaches. Emergency services rushed to the scene, and passengers were safely evacuated. Fortunately, no casualties have been reported so far.
Eyewitnesses described the chaos as passengers scrambled to exit the burning coaches. “There was smoke everywhere, and people were shouting for help,” said a passenger who managed to escape unscathed.
Rescue teams extinguished the fire after an hour-long operation. The affected coaches have been detached, and efforts are underway to clear the tracks. Train services on the route are expected to face delays.
An inquiry into the incident has been launched by Pakistan Railways to determine the exact cause of the fire and assess damages. Authorities have assured that safety measures will be enhanced to prevent similar occurrences in the future.
This is not the first time a fire has broken out on the Tezgam Express. A similar tragedy in 2019 claimed over 70 lives, highlighting ongoing safety concerns in Pakistan’s railway system.
