A massive fire broke out in the scenic Margalla Hills of Islamabad on Sunday afternoon, sending thick plumes of smoke into the sky and prompting an urgent response from emergency services.
According to officials from the Capital Development Authority (CDA), the fire erupted near Trail 5 and rapidly spread due to dry weather and strong winds. More than 70 firefighters, assisted by CDA and Islamabad Wildlife Management Board personnel, are currently battling the blaze in difficult terrain.
Eyewitnesses reported flames creeping dangerously close to hiking trails, prompting authorities to evacuate tourists and shut down multiple routes for public safety.
“No casualties have been reported so far, but the fire is intense and we are using all available resources to control it,” said a CDA spokesperson. Helicopters have also been deployed for aerial water drops, while additional reinforcements from the Pakistan Army and Rescue 1122 remain on standby.
Forest fires in the Margalla Hills have become increasingly common during the summer months, often exacerbated by human negligence and extreme weather conditions. An investigation into the cause of the current blaze is underway.
Authorities have urged citizens to avoid the area and report any suspicious activity or new fire outbreaks immediately.
