KARACHI — On Tuesday, the UAE Consulate in Karachi honored Aseefa Bhutto Zardari, the First Lady of Pakistan, with the Soft Diplomacy Award. The ceremony was held to celebrate Pakistan’s Independence Day.
Zardari received the award for her dedicated work in fighting polio, including her successful efforts to get UAE support for vaccination drives in Balochistan.
In her speech, Zardari thanked the UAE and talked about her commitment to ending polio. She stressed the need for global cooperation in health efforts and praised the UAE for its support in fighting polio, especially in the most affected areas of Pakistan.
She noted that defeating polio is crucial for Pakistan’s future and promised to keep working towards a polio-free country. Zardari also spoke about the strong relationship between Pakistan and the UAE, recognizing the UAE’s help during various crises like earthquakes and floods.
She expressed a personal connection to Dubai, calling it her second home, and thanked the Consul General and others for their efforts to strengthen ties between the two countries.
The Soft Diplomacy Award from the UAE Consulate celebrates people who have made significant contributions to improving diplomatic and humanitarian relations between Pakistan and the UAE.
