For the first time in Pakistan, authorities have successfully deployed thermal technology during flood rescue operations, saving more than 490 lives in severely affected areas.
Rescue officials confirmed that thermal imaging devices were used to detect human heat signatures in submerged villages, enabling teams to quickly locate stranded families trapped on rooftops, trees, and isolated patches of land.
“This technology has significantly improved our response time and allowed us to reach people who otherwise might not have been spotted,” a rescue spokesperson said.
Experts believe that the introduction of thermal technology marks a major step forward in Pakistan’s disaster management capacity, as floods continue to pose recurring threats to vulnerable communities.
Authorities plan to expand its use across other provinces to strengthen emergency preparedness and enhance future rescue missions.
