Karachi: In a move aimed at easing urban congestion and improving public transport, the Sindh government has announced that five new double-decker buses will begin operating on Karachi’s major routes by January.
Transport officials said the buses are part of a pilot project designed to offer higher passenger capacity, better comfort, and affordable fares for daily commuters. The modern double-deckers will be air-conditioned and equipped with safety features, CCTV cameras, and accessibility options.
Initially, the buses are expected to operate on high-traffic corridors, connecting key commercial and residential areas of the city. Authorities said routes and fare details will be finalized closer to the launch date.
Sindh Transport Minister stated that if the pilot project proves successful, more double-decker buses will be added to the fleet in the coming months. “This initiative reflects our commitment to providing safe, efficient, and dignified public transport for the people of Karachi,” the minister said.
Commuters have welcomed the announcement, hoping the new service will reduce overcrowding and improve daily travel in Pakistan’s largest city.
