Saudi Arabia has placed a big order for eight Candela P-12 electric hydrofoil ships. This is the largest order ever for the Stockholm-based company. The ships will be used in NEOM, the new sustainable city being built in the northwest of Saudi Arabia.
The Candela P-12, which will start operating in Stockholm’s public transport system in fall 2024, uses special underwater wings to lift out of the water, making it very efficient. It uses 80% less energy than traditional boats. The P-12 can travel at speeds up to 25 knots and has a range of over two hours, making it the fastest and longest-range electric passenger ship available.
