Mansehra, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa – At least four passengers lost their lives and three others were injured when a passenger bus skidded off the Hazara Expressway in Mansehra district on Tuesday morning, rescue officials reported.
The incident occurred as the bus, en route to Rawalpindi from Gilgit, veered off the road due to heavy rain. Rescue 1122 spokesperson, Amir Khadam, confirmed that the injured and deceased were transported to Mansehra’s King Abdullah Hospital. The victims reportedly hailed from Gilgit and Kohistan.
The heavy rainfall has also caused disruptions in the area, with the Mansehra district administration suspending traffic on the Naran-Babusar Road following heavy snowfall. Ghulam Abbas, Deputy Director of the National Highway Authority, mentioned that while the Karakoram Highway was initially blocked at two points in Kohistan, it has since reopened.
Unpredictable weather, rugged terrain, and inadequate road maintenance often contribute to road accidents in KP and the northern regions, especially during harsh weather. This incident follows another recent tragedy, where two passengers died and 36 were injured after a bus fell into a ravine in Upper Kohistan.
