NEW DELHI: In a major boost to India’s defense export ambitions, France has reportedly expressed interest in purchasing Pinaka multi-barrel rocket systems following the weapon’s demonstrated success during Operation Sindoor, defense sources confirmed on Wednesday.
The Pinaka Rocket System, developed by India’s Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) and produced by private and public sector defense manufacturers, has gained global attention for its precision, range, and battlefield adaptability.
According to defense officials, French military representatives observed the system’s performance during recent joint exercises and were “highly impressed” by its operational accuracy and rapid deployment capability.
“The interest shown by France marks a new milestone for India’s defense exports,” said a senior defense ministry official. “It reflects international confidence in India’s indigenous technologies and their effectiveness under combat conditions.”
Operation Sindoor, conducted earlier this year, showcased India’s indigenous artillery and rocket systems in simulated battle conditions. The successful demonstration of Pinaka’s strike efficiency and automated fire control drew strong interest from multiple allied nations.
France’s potential acquisition would mark the first European procurement of the Indian-made rocket system, strengthening defense cooperation between the two countries, which already collaborate on projects like the Rafale fighter jets and Scorpene submarines.
Analysts believe the move could pave the way for expanded defense partnerships and future joint development programs between Paris and New Delhi.
