Gilgit-Baltistan (GB) has announced a new entry fee of Rs. 2,000 per vehicle for tourists visiting the picturesque region. The decision aims to manage the increasing influx of vehicles, preserve the natural beauty of the area, and generate revenue for infrastructure development.
The fee applies to all non-local vehicles entering GB and will be collected at designated entry points. According to local authorities, the funds will be used to maintain roads, improve facilities for tourists, and support sustainable tourism initiatives.
While some visitors have expressed concerns over the additional cost, others see it as a reasonable step to protect the fragile ecosystem of the region. “If it helps preserve the breathtaking landscapes and improves facilities, it’s worth it,” said a tourist from Lahore.
Gilgit-Baltistan, known for its stunning mountains, serene valleys, and unique cultural heritage, has seen a significant rise in tourism in recent years. The government hopes this move will encourage responsible tourism while ensuring the region remains a top destination for travelers.
