ISLAMABAD – In a major relief for the public, petrol and diesel prices in Pakistan are expected to decrease by up to Rs.12 per litre starting April 16, 2025, sources within the oil industry revealed on Sunday.
The anticipated drop follows a sharp decline in global crude oil prices, with Brent crude falling significantly over the past few days. This international trend is expected to directly benefit Pakistani consumers who have been burdened by rising fuel costs.
Currently, the price of petrol stands at Rs.254.63 per litre, while high-speed diesel (HSD) is being sold at Rs.258.64 per litre. After the expected reduction, the price of petrol could go down to Rs.242–243, and diesel may come down to Rs.246–247 per litre.
The Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA) has reportedly compiled its recommendations based on recent international market trends and has forwarded them to the Ministry of Finance. Final approval will come from Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif before the revised prices are officially announced.
This significant decrease will not only ease transportation costs for the general public but may also lead to a reduction in prices of essential commodities, offering broader economic relief.
