The government has officially released the list of gazetted holidays for the upcoming year, 2025. These holidays encompass key observances for both Muslims and minority communities across the country.
According to the notification, there will be a total of 40 holidays in 2025, comprising 17 gazetted holidays and 23 optional holidays.
Key Holidays in 2025:
- February 5: The first holiday of the year, observed in solidarity with Kashmir.
- March 23: Pakistan Day.
- May Holidays:
- May 1: Labour Day.
- May 28: Youm-e-Takbeer, marking the day Pakistan became a nuclear power.
- Eid-ul-Fitr: March 30, 31, and April 1.
- Eid-ul-Adha: June 7, 8, and 9.
- Muharram: July 5 and 6 (9th and 10th of Muharram).
- August 14: Independence Day.
- Eid Milad-un-Nabi (PBUH): September 5 or 6 (to be confirmed by moon sighting).
- November 9: Iqbal Day.
- December 25: Quaid-e-Azam Day and Christmas.
- December 26: Post-Christmas holiday for Christian employees.
Bank Holidays
Banks will remain closed for public dealings on:
- January 1
- March 1
- July 1
Additional Details
- Optional Holidays: Muslim government employees can avail of one optional leave per year, while non-Muslim employees are entitled to up to three optional leaves.
- The Islamic holidays have been tentatively scheduled and are subject to moon sighting. A separate notification will confirm these dates.
