In a press conference held on Sunday, Federal Minister for Energy, Awais Ahmad Khan Leghari, reaffirmed the government’s unwavering support for the solar net-metering policy. The announcement comes amidst speculation regarding the potential replacement of net metering with a gross-metering mechanism.
Net metering, a policy facilitating consumers in selling surplus solar-generated electricity back to the grid, has garnered significant traction for its role in reducing electricity bills. Conversely, the proposed gross metering system directs electricity into the national grid, potentially diminishing consumers’ financial benefits.
Minister Leghari, addressing reporters at the Lahore Electric Supply Company (Lesco) headquarters, debunked media reports suggesting an imminent policy shift.
