The government has decided not to accept the resignation of Balochistan National Party (BNP) leader Sardar Akhtar Mengal from his position as a member of the National Assembly. In response to Mengal’s unexpected move, a high-level committee has been formed to persuade the influential leader to reconsider his decision.
Sources reveal that the committee, comprising senior government figures, was established under the direction of a top government official. Federal Minister Rana Sanaullah is set to lead the delegation, which is expected to meet Mengal at Parliament Lodges shortly. The primary goal of this meeting is to convince Mengal to continue his role in the Assembly.
Should the committee succeed in its mission, a meeting between Mengal and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif is also likely to take place. This development comes after Mengal submitted his resignation yesterday, citing dissatisfaction with the state of affairs in Balochistan and his perceived inability to deliver on promises made to his constituents.
In his resignation, Mengal expressed a lack of confidence in the state, the President, and the Prime Minister, attributing his decision to the ongoing challenges in Balochistan. As the government works to retain Mengal, his resignation has sparked significant political activity, underscoring his critical role within the Assembly and the broader political landscape of Pakistan.
