Stockholm / Jerusalem — October 6, 2025: Climate activist Greta Thunberg is reportedly among the 70 international activists detained during the recent “Gaza Freedom Flotilla” who are expected to be released today, according to official and media sources.
The flotilla, which set sail last week carrying humanitarian aid and pro-Palestinian activists, was intercepted by Israeli naval forces before reaching Gaza’s coastal waters. The detainees, hailing from more than a dozen countries, were taken into custody for allegedly attempting to breach the naval blockade.
Human rights organizations and diplomatic missions have urged for their immediate release, citing the flotilla’s stated peaceful intentions.
Thunberg’s inclusion among the detainees drew significant global attention, reigniting discussions around international activism, humanitarian aid access to Gaza, and the legality of the blockade.
Officials say the detainees will be released and deported in phases, with several expected to return to their home countries by the end of the day.
