Gwadar, Balochistan, September 27, 2023 – Balochistan’s caretaker Chief Minister, Mir Ali Mardan Domki, expressed optimism about the impending operational status of Gwadar Port, underscoring its potential to invigorate business and trade activities. During his visit to Gwadar, the chief minister emphasized the port’s strategic location, which has already facilitated Afghan transit trade.
Speaking to journalists, Chief Minister Domki acknowledged the pressing issue of drinking water scarcity in Gwadar due to below-average rainfall this year. He revealed that both the administration and the public were exercising extreme caution in water consumption to manage the shortage effectively.
Addressing concerns about power supply from Iran, Mr. Domki reassured that the arrangement faced temporary malfunctions for only two months each year. For the remainder of the year, he affirmed that the supply operated seamlessly.
Chief Minister Domki presided over a meeting to evaluate the progress of development projects in the region during his visit. He also made stops at the GDA hospital and the Fisheries Department to inspect ongoing initiatives.
In his remarks regarding the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC), Mr. Domki affirmed that work was progressing rapidly on all associated projects, aiming to stimulate economic activities and bolster regional development.
The imminent commissioning of Gwadar Port is expected to be a significant milestone not only for Balochistan but also for the broader economic and trade landscape of Pakistan, bolstering its connectivity and trade prospects with neighboring countries.
