Today, the Hajj officially commenced as millions of devout pilgrims from across the globe embarked on their profound spiritual journey. The solemn ritual of wearing the Ihram upon crossing the outer boundaries of Makkah, known as the Miqat, marked the beginning of this sacred pilgrimage.
The tranquil valley of Mina is now bustling with the arrival of 2.5 million pilgrims, including 160,000 Pakistanis, who have converged to fulfill their religious duties. For nearly a month, faithful pilgrims have been preparing in Makkah, with over 1.5 million already in Saudi Arabia ahead of the pilgrimage.
The first essential pre-Hajj ritual, circumambulating the Kaaba, was performed by millions today, symbolizing the start of the annual pilgrimage. Following in the footsteps of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him), pilgrims will now proceed to the valley of Mina, preparing for the Hajj sermon to be delivered on the plains of Arafat.
Security measures have been bolstered by the Saudi Royal Ground forces to ensure the safety of the pilgrims throughout the Hajj. However, expatriates without permits to perform the Hajj face fines and deportation.
Over the next few days, pilgrims will continue their rituals, including the symbolic act of casting pebbles and trimming or shaving their hair, representing spiritual renewal. The culmination of the Hajj pilgrimage will occur on the 12th of Dhu al-Hijjah, as pilgrims undertake the rites of Tawaf al-Ifadha and Sa’i between the hills of Safa and Marwah in Makkah.
