ISLAMABAD – A powerful hailstorm struck the federal capital on Tuesday afternoon, pelting the city with unusually large hailstones that shattered car windows and caused widespread damage.
The unexpected storm, which lasted around 20 minutes, caught residents off guard as deafening hail clattered across rooftops, roads, and parked vehicles. Several social media videos showed damaged windshields and broken glass littering the streets, particularly in areas like G-10, F-6, and Blue Area.
“I’ve never seen hail this big in my life,” said Farhan Ali, a resident of Sector G-9. “My car’s rear window was completely destroyed.”
The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) had issued a rain alert for parts of Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, but the intensity of the hailstorm in Islamabad surprised many. No injuries have been reported so far, but authorities have urged citizens to stay indoors during further weather fluctuations.
Traffic also slowed to a crawl during the storm, with poor visibility and slippery roads adding to commuters’ woes.
Meteorologists say such intense hailstorms are rare in the region but may become more frequent due to changing climate patterns.
