Heavy rain accompanied by thunderstorms has swept through Islamabad, Lahore, and various cities across Punjab province, bringing much-needed relief from the scorching heatwave that has gripped the region.
The ongoing fourth spell of the monsoon season has transformed the weather in Punjab, with cool winds and dark clouds dominating the skies. While some areas received light showers, others experienced heavy downpours, significantly improving the overall weather conditions.
In Lahore, residents welcomed the rainfall with joy after weeks of intense heat. Key areas including Eid Gah, Mall Road, Anarkali Bazaar, and Shahalimar were among those drenched by the showers. However, the rain triggered multiple power feeder trippings, leading to electricity disruptions in several parts of the city.
Cities such as Sheikhupura, Gujranwala, Kamoke, and Shorkot also witnessed heavy rainfall, while the hill station of Murree enjoyed pleasant weather with strong winds and substantial showers.
Despite the relief brought by the rainfall, concerns have been raised by the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) regarding potential flash flooding in Narowal and Sialkot districts over the next few days. The NDMA warns of possible disruptions to transportation and damage to infrastructure, crops, and livestock in these flood-prone areas.
Meanwhile, cities including Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Jhelum, Mandi Bahauddin, Attock, and Wazirabad have also experienced varying degrees of rainfall, transforming roads into temporary streams in some places.
The Met Office predicts continued monsoon showers across Punjab and Azad Kashmir, while NDMA continues to monitor flood risks in the region closely. As the rains persist, authorities urge residents to remain cautious and prepared for potential flooding incidents.
