Arshad Nadeem, Pakistan’s premier javelin thrower, is set to compete in the final round of the Men’s Javelin Throw competition at the Paris Olympics 2024. The much-anticipated event will begin at 11:25 pm Pakistan Standard Time (PST) on Thursday.
Arshad secured his place in the final with an impressive first attempt of 86.59 metres during the qualification round at Stade de France on Tuesday afternoon. His remarkable throw propelled him to join India’s Neeraj Chopra, who recorded the best throw of the qualification round with 89.34 metres, and Grenada’s Peter Anderson, who also qualified automatically with a throw of 88.63 metres.
Athletes who achieve throws of 84 metres or more qualify automatically, with the top 12 advancing to the finals. Arshad’s outstanding performance has heightened expectations as he represents Pakistan’s strongest hope for an Olympic medal.
Pakistan’s white-ball cricket captain, Babar Azam, extended his support to Arshad through a heartfelt video message, wishing him success in the final. “I wish him good luck. I request everyone to support and pray he wins the final. Chak De Phatte Arshad Nadeem,” Babar expressed.
Arshad, who won a silver medal at the 2023 World Championship and a gold at the 2022 Commonwealth Games, has expressed his determination to make the nation proud. “I want to make Pakistan proud in the Olympic Games,” he told a local news outlet. “I am optimistic about delivering a good result in the final,” he added, thanking fans for their unwavering support.
As Pakistan’s primary hope for a medal, Arshad carries the weight of a nation eager to end its Olympic medal drought, which has persisted since the country last secured a bronze in field hockey in 1992.
The final round of the Men’s Javelin Throw competition at the Paris Olympics 2024 is scheduled to commence at 11:25 pm (PST) on Thursday, and the nation will be watching with bated breath.
