Southern Lebanon — Residents returning to their homes on Wednesday, hours after a ceasefire between Israel and Hezbollah took effect, were met with unexpected messages left behind by Hezbollah fighters. According to our correspondent in southern Lebanon, these handwritten notes expressed regret for using civilian properties during the clashes.
The messages, some signed as “Men of God” or “Mujahidin of the Islamic Resistance of Hezbollah,” apologized for occupying the homes to “eat and sleep” amidst the conflict.
This gesture comes as tensions ease following intense cross-border exchanges between the two sides. Residents expressed mixed emotions, with some viewing the notes as a sign of respect while others criticized the fighters for compromising their safety by using civilian spaces in the first place.
The ceasefire, brokered with international mediation, aims to de-escalate the ongoing violence that has caused significant disruption and displacement in the region. Local authorities are assessing the extent of damages in affected areas as residents attempt to resume their daily lives.
