Tharparkar, Sindh – A young Hindu woman, Bhagwanti Bheel, has converted to Islam and married a Muslim man, according to media reports. She has now taken the name Saima Islam after embracing the faith.
Bheel, a 20-year-old widow with a daughter, reportedly converted on Monday alongside her Muslim friend, Saddam Bajeer, who had supported her singing career and helped her with TikTok videos. The conversion ceremony was conducted by prominent cleric Umar Jan Sarhandi in Samaro.
Bajeer, who is already married and has three children from his first wife, expressed happiness about his second marriage and stated that he has no plans to return to his village. The news has come as a surprise to many, especially since Bajeer’s family had previously been supportive of Bheel, while her own family distanced themselves after learning about her conversion.
Bheel belongs to the Bheel community, a lower-caste Hindu group with limited social and political influence in Pakistan. The All Pakistan Hindu Panchayat has raised concerns over the case, pointing out a pattern of forced conversions and questioning the immediacy of the marriage following the conversion.
This development has once again sparked debate about religious conversions and the rights of minority communities in Pakistan.
