In a thrilling development for cricket enthusiasts across Pakistan, the International Cricket Council (ICC) Men’s ODI World Cup 2023 Trophy has arrived in Lahore for a much-anticipated three-day tour. The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) made the official announcement on Tuesday, setting the stage for a remarkable journey filled with iconic moments and engaging activities.
The prestigious trophy embarked on its global odyssey on June 27, commencing its journey from India. Over the past few months, it has visited cricket-loving nations such as Australia, New Zealand, Papua New Guinea, the United States, West Indies, Bangladesh, Kuwait, Bahrain, Italy, France, and England, captivating fans and cricket enthusiasts along the way.
Originally scheduled for a five-day visit from July 31 to August 4, the trophy’s arrival in Pakistan was delayed due to uncertainties surrounding Pakistan’s participation in the tournament. However, the trophy finally touched down in Lahore on September 4 and is set to depart on September 6.
During this brief yet monumental visit, the trophy will make stops at historical landmarks, cricket academies, and educational institutions, offering fans from all walks of life a unique opportunity to get up close and personal with the glory of cricket. As a special treat for the media, the trophy will be on display at the National Cricket Academy’s outdoor area on September 6 at 10:00 AM for a 40-minute viewing.
The ICC Men’s ODI World Cup 2023, one of cricket’s most coveted prizes, will witness ten teams competing for the elusive title across ten venues from October 5 to November 19. The tournament will kick off at the iconic Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad, which will also host the grand finale.
The World Cup 2023 will follow a round-robin format, with all participating teams facing each other in a total of 45 league matches. The top four teams will advance to the semi-finals, scheduled to be held in Mumbai on November 15 and in Kolkata on November 16. Both the semi-finals and the final will have reserve days, ensuring that cricket fans are in for an unforgettable sporting spectacle.
