Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder and former Prime Minister Imran Khan has expelled Sher Afzal Marwat from the party over repeated violations of party discipline. The decision was taken on Wednesday, with PTI set to issue a formal notification terminating Marwat’s basic membership.
Following his expulsion, Marwat will also be asked to resign from the National Assembly as a PTI member.
Disciplinary Breach Led to Expulsion
Sources indicate that Marwat’s removal comes after multiple warnings from the party leadership. He was earlier served a show-cause notice for making statements against PTI, and his conduct at the Swabi rally on February 8 reportedly further aggravated tensions within the party.
Imran Khan had expressed displeasure over Marwat’s speech at the rally, and PTI leaders had lodged complaints regarding his behavior. This dissatisfaction culminated in the decision to sever ties with him.
Imran Khan Rejects Marwat as Legal Counsel
In a further blow to Marwat, Imran Khan has instructed authorities to deny him legal representation on his behalf. Reports suggest that Khan has formally notified both the prison administration and the court that Marwat does not represent him in any legal capacity and should not be allowed access to him in prison.
PTI is expected to release a formal statement regarding Sher Afzal Marwat’s involvement in the coming days, making the party’s stance clear on the matter.
