Islamabad, August 15, 2024 — Former Prime Minister Imran Khan has backed the military’s investigation into former ISI chief General Faiz Hamid, saying it’s an internal matter and he isn’t involved. However, he also called for accountability for everyone involved in wrongdoing.
Speaking from Adiala Jail, where he is currently held, Khan said that General Hamid, who he believes was valuable, has been unfairly treated. He added that while it’s good Hamid is being investigated, the same scrutiny should apply to others as well.
Khan claimed that reports indicate the Speaker of the Punjab Assembly has been meeting frequently with former army chief General Qamar Javed Bajwa. He alleged that Bajwa removed Hamid under pressure from Nawaz Sharif and Shehbaz Sharif and that he had a heated argument with Bajwa over the decision.
The military has announced that Lt. Gen (retd) Faiz Hameed is in custody and a court martial process has begun.
Khan also warned of a possible constitutional crisis if the Election Commission does not assign the correct seats to PTI, saying it would be a third violation of the constitution.
