In a recent development, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan declined to respond to inquiries from the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) regarding his contentious social media post on X, formerly Twitter, according to sources disclosed to Geo News.
The FIA cybercrime team arrived at Adiala jail late Thursday evening with the intention to question the former prime minister concerning his tweet. However, Khan declined to engage with the team or participate in the investigation, as per the sources.
Reportedly, Khan insisted on having his lawyers present before addressing any queries from the FIA team. Consequently, the probe team from FIA documented Khan’s refusal in writing.
This development follows the decision by FIA’s cybercrime wing to take action against Khan over a controversial tweet attributed to him on social media. The tweet in question urged Pakistanis to study the Hamood ur Rahman Commission Report, sparking criticism from various quarters.
However, PTI Chairman Barrister Gohar asserted that Khan had no involvement in the tweet, claiming ignorance of the text posted on his account. Gohar defended the tweet, citing its political context and arguing it was taken out of context.
Similarly, PTI defended the post, clarifying that the reference to the events of 1971 was meant as a historical reminder for learning purposes.
The controversial tweet drew condemnation from Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and others. In response, sources within FIA hinted at taking action against Khan, particularly as a propaganda video featuring Mujeeb was allegedly uploaded from Khan’s account.
The investigation will also involve PTI officials, including Gohar, PTI Information Secretary Raoof Hasan, and Secretary-General Omar Ayub, to ascertain the origin of the post and the propaganda video.
The FIA team will determine whether Khan or someone with his consent uploaded the contentious content. Legal action will be taken if the account holder is found responsible, while closure of the X account will be sought if Khan is not directly implicated.
