Madinah: Indian Umrah pilgrims who lost their lives in a recent bus crash near Madinah were laid to rest on Monday in the historic Jannat ul Baqi cemetery, close to the Prophet’s Mosque. Funeral prayers were offered after one of the congregational prayers in Masjid an-Nabawi, attended by relatives, fellow pilgrims and members of the local community.
Officials from the Embassy of India in Riyadh and the Consulate General in Jeddah were present during the rites and expressed condolences on behalf of the Government of India. They also thanked Saudi authorities for arranging medical care for the injured and for facilitating the speedy completion of burial formalities in Madinah.
The victims were part of a group travelling by bus for Umrah when the vehicle reportedly met with an accident on a highway leading to Madinah, resulting in multiple fatalities and injuries. Indian and Saudi authorities are coordinating to support the affected families and ensure all necessary assistance to the injured pilgrims still under treatment.
