Pakistan’s wicketkeeper-batsman Mohammad Rizwan has taken responsibility for the team’s disappointing exit from the ICC Champions Trophy 2025, stating that injuries cannot be used as an excuse for their underwhelming performance.
Speaking to the media after Pakistan’s elimination, Rizwan acknowledged that while injuries to key players affected the squad, the team as a whole failed to deliver when it mattered the most.
“Injuries are part of the game, but we cannot hide behind them. We had enough talent and experience to perform better, but unfortunately, we couldn’t execute our plans,” Rizwan said.
Pakistan, a former Champions Trophy winner, struggled throughout the tournament, failing to make it past the group stage. The team’s batting inconsistencies, bowling lapses, and overall lack of execution in crucial moments led to their early exit.
Fans and cricket analysts have been critical of Pakistan’s campaign, pointing out selection issues and lackluster performances from senior players. Rizwan, however, emphasized the need to move forward and learn from the mistakes.
“As a team, we have to own our shortcomings and work harder. The journey doesn’t stop here, and we will come back stronger,” he added.
Pakistan’s elimination has sparked discussions about potential changes in the squad and coaching staff ahead of upcoming international assignments.
