PESHAWAR: After nearly two decades, international cricket is set to make a historic comeback to Peshawar’s newly renovated Arbab Niaz Stadium, as the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) confirms two Pakistan Super League (PSL) 2025 matches in the city.
Presenting the final squads for the 2025 HBL PSL!
The last international match played in Peshawar was a thrilling encounter between Pakistan and India in 2006. Since then, the city has been deprived of international cricket due to security concerns and stadium infrastructure issues.
The revival of cricket in Peshawar has been made possible through the persistent efforts of Peshawar Zalmi and the Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (K-P) government. However, due to the unavailability of floodlights, both PSL matches will be held during daytime.
Adding to the excitement, the ICC Champions Trophy will also arrive in Peshawar on Thursday for public display at the historic stadium.
Arbab Niaz Stadium Nears Completion
The renovation and modernization of Arbab Niaz Stadium are in full swing, with construction expected to be completed by February 15, according to K-P Minister for Sports and Youth Affairs, Syed Fakhar Jahan.
During his recent visit to the stadium, the minister reaffirmed the government’s commitment to bringing PSL matches to Peshawar, ensuring that work on the venue is progressing at an accelerated pace. Civil work is being carried out in double shifts to meet the deadline, and officials are confident that the stadium will be fully operational for next year’s PSL season.
Accompanying the minister were Peshawar Zalmi’s Director and former Test cricketer Mohammad Akram, Director General of Sports Abdul Nasir, and Director of Arbab Niaz Stadium Saleem Raza, along with engineers and contractors overseeing the project.
Security Not a Concern, Says Minister
Addressing security concerns, Fakhar Jahan assured that Peshawar is ready to host major sporting events, citing the successful organization of various national-level competitions, including a recently concluded marathon featuring athletes from across the country.
With the completion of Arbab Niaz Stadium, cricket fans in Peshawar eagerly anticipate the return of international and PSL matches, bringing back the electrifying atmosphere that the city has long been known for.
