An Iraqi national known for his involvement in multiple incidents of Quran desecration was reportedly found dead in Norway on Monday. While there has been no official statement regarding the cause of his death, various websites and social media accounts have claimed that Salwan Momika was discovered deceased.
Momika, who previously announced his arrival in Norway on March 27, had stated that he sought asylum and international protection there due to what he described as Sweden’s refusal to accept asylum for “philosophers and thinkers,” only granting it to what he referred to as “terrorists.” Despite this, he expressed continued admiration for the Swedish people but criticized the persecution he claimed to have faced from Swedish authorities.
Describing himself as a ‘liberal atheist,’ Momika had been involved in numerous acts of Quran desecration in Sweden, reportedly with the permission of Swedish authorities. His demonstrations frequently took place outside embassies of Muslim countries.
In a message posted on his X account before his death, he vowed to persist in his “struggle” against Islamic ideology, stating, “Since I started the struggle against Islam, I have paid and continue to pay the price, and I am ready for that, whatever the cost.”
Authorities are yet to confirm the circumstances surrounding his death, but Momika’s passing has sparked discussions online, with many contrasting opinions emerging regarding his actions and beliefs.
