The Islamabad High Court has directed authorities to produce former Prime Minister Imran Khan by 3 PM on Thursday. Justice Sardar Ijaz Ishaq emphasized that if the government fails to comply, it must provide a valid reason for Khan’s absence.
The superintendent of Adiala Jail, where Khan is currently incarcerated, has been specifically instructed by the court to ensure his presence. Furthermore, the court stressed that the government must adequately justify any security threats cited as a reason for Khan’s non-appearance.
During the proceedings, Justice Ishaq raised concerns regarding a notification presented by the Punjab government, which only covered the period from October 21st to 25th. He demanded the earlier notification for clarification.
In addition, the court directed the Ministry of Interior to submit a detailed report on any security threats against Imran Khan. The counsel for the Punjab government informed the court that restrictions on Khan’s movement were imposed after October 3rd due to these security threats.
It is noteworthy that the government recently extended the ban on meetings in Adiala Jail, further complicating the situation for the former prime minister.
