Islamabad police arrested Aleema Khan and Uzma Khan, sisters of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan, on Friday during a protest at D-Chowk. The two were taken into custody and transferred to the Secretariat police station, as confirmed by Express News.
Their arrest followed PTI’s announcement of a planned protest in the area. Supporters began arriving at D-Chowk, and both Aleema and Uzma Khan joined the demonstration before being detained by law enforcement.
Earlier in the day, life in Rawalpindi and Islamabad was heavily disrupted as authorities sealed entry and exit points to the capital. In addition, mobile phone services were suspended in anticipation of the PTI rally. The government increased its efforts to limit the protest, while PTI aimed to turn the gathering into a show of political strength.
Islamabad police also announced the closure of police facilitation centres and driving licence offices for the day. Metro bus services between Saddar and IJP Road in Rawalpindi were halted, though operations continued between IJP Road and Pak Secretariat.
At the Burhan Interchange, tensions flared between PTI supporters from Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa and the police. Clashes erupted as tear gas was fired to disperse the crowd. In D-Chowk, the situation became more intense, with PTI workers gathering in larger numbers, prompting the police to fire tear gas and arrest six more individuals.
