Islamabad’s beloved Monal restaurant has announced it will be closing its doors following a recent Supreme Court of Pakistan directive. The renowned dining establishment, situated in the picturesque Margalla Hills National Park, will officially cease operations on September 11, 2024.
In a heartfelt message posted on their Facebook page, Monal expressed their gratitude to their patrons, stating, “It’s time to say Goodbye. As per Honorable SCP directions, we are closing on 11/09/2024.” The restaurant’s management conveyed their appreciation for the years of support, acknowledging the special place Monal has held in the hearts of its customers.
Since its inception in 2006, Monal has been a hallmark of Islamabad’s dining scene, celebrated for its stunning views and dedication to showcasing Pakistan’s rich cultural heritage. “It was an absolute pleasure for the Monal family to serve and showcase a positive image of Pakistan and its beautiful people,” the message read. “This journey was full of success stories and emotions for the team affiliated with us but now it’s time to say goodbye.”
The closure follows a Supreme Court ruling issued on June 11, which mandated the dismantling of all restaurants operating within national parks. The Court’s decision emphasized the prohibition of commercial activities within such protected areas, despite acknowledging the need to relocate affected establishments.
