In the early hours of Thursday morning, Israeli airstrikes resulted in the deaths of six Palestinians in central Gaza City and Khan Younis. According to the official Palestinian news agency Wafa, the strikes targeted the al-Sabra neighborhood in southern Gaza City, killing three and injuring several others when a missile hit a home belonging to the Khzeiq family.
Additionally, the Israeli military conducted a limited ground incursion into the Zeitoun neighborhood, located in southeastern Gaza City, which was accompanied by heavy artillery fire. In a separate airstrike on Bani Suhaila, east of Khan Younis, three more Palestinians lost their lives.
This escalation comes despite a UN Security Council resolution calling for an immediate cease-fire, which Israel has ignored. The ongoing offensive, launched after an attack by Hamas on October 7, 2023, has been condemned internationally. The conflict has resulted in nearly 40,000 deaths, predominantly among women and children, with over 92,000 injured, according to local health officials.
Over the past ten months, large areas of Gaza have been devastated by the conflict, compounded by a severe blockade affecting the availability of food, clean water, and medical supplies. The International Court of Justice (ICJ) has accused Israel of genocide and ordered a halt to military operations in Rafah, where over a million Palestinians had sought refuge before the city was invaded on May 6.
