A senior official from the US State Department has revealed that Israel has not provided assurances to the Biden administration regarding a halt to potential military strikes on Iran’s nuclear facilities. Speaking to CNN on Friday, the unnamed official expressed uncertainty about Israel’s military actions as the anniversary of the Hamas attack approaches.
“It is really hard to tell whether Tel Aviv would retaliate on the one-year mark of the attack by Hamas,” the official stated. “We hope and expect to see some wisdom as well as strength, but as you guys know, no guarantees.”
The remarks come in the wake of increased tensions following Iran’s missile strikes against Israel, which were reportedly in retaliation for the recent assassinations of Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh and Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah. In response, Israel has intensified its air and ground operations in Lebanon and continues strikes in the Gaza Strip.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has declared that Iran will “pay” for these attacks, heightening concerns about the potential for further military escalation in the region
