The annual ceremony to replace the Kiswa, the black cloth covering the Holy Kaaba, will be held today to mark the beginning of the Islamic New Year, 1 Muharram 1447 AH.
A team from the King Abdulaziz Complex for Kiswah Manufacturing will carry out the sacred task, installing the new silk cover embroidered with gold and silver threads. The ceremony symbolizes spiritual renewal and is watched by millions around the world.
The event was moved from the 9th of Dhul Hijjah to 1st Muharram starting in 2022, to align with the start of the Hijri calendar.
