Karachi Board Introduces Per-Question Payment Model for Teachers in 2025 Exams

New system to enhance exam fairness and attract skilled educators, alongside the adoption of E-marking and OMR technology.

The Board of Karachi Intermediate has introduced a major shift in the compensation model for teachers assessing exams, moving to a per-question payment system instead of the traditional per-copy system. This change will come into effect starting with the 2025 annual exams.

Zulfiqar Shah, Chairman of the Karachi Intermediate Board, announced this development during an introductory seminar at Adamjee Institute, explaining that the new payment structure aligns with the implementation of E-marking and Optical Mark Recognition (OMR) technology, which will also debut in the 2025 exams.

Shah stated that the per-question model has already proven successful in Islamabad and is expected to attract more skilled teachers, who previously avoided assessment duties due to low compensation. The chairman stressed the importance of fair compensation for teachers, which would enhance the quality of marking and ensure fairer results for students.

He further highlighted the flaws of the formula-based marking system, criticizing it for undermining talented students and causing frustration within the education system. Shah also acknowledged the disparity in exam preparation between students from well-resourced institutions like Adamjee College and those from underfunded schools in areas like Lyari, calling for greater attention to this issue of educational inequality.

Roman Ijaz Malik, a key figure in educational reform efforts across Sindh, also spoke at the seminar. The event was jointly organized with the Sindh Professors and Lecturers Association and the Sindh Secondary School Improvement Project.

This initiative is part of broader reforms aimed at modernizing the exam system and addressing long-standing inequalities within the education sector.
