Karachi is currently experiencing intermittent light rain and drizzle, with forecasts from the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) indicating the possibility of continued precipitation over the next 24 hours. The city is shrouded in dark clouds, providing a welcome break from the usual heat.
The PMD reports that Karachi will endure overcast skies and strong winds throughout the day. The temperature is currently at 28°C, with a high expected to reach 32°C. Winds are blowing from the southwest at 7 km/h, and humidity levels are elevated at 88%.
While the air quality in Karachi is currently deemed good, the city remains a significant environmental concern, ranking 28th among the world’s most polluted cities and fourth in Pakistan. The particulate matter concentration stands at 65 micrograms per cubic meter.
Sindh on High Alert
The PMD has issued a severe weather warning for Sindh, anticipating heavy rainfall over the next 72 hours with a potential flood risk in certain districts. A powerful monsoon system is impacting the north-central, eastern, and northeastern regions of Balochistan.
The districts expected to face intermittent rain and thunderstorms include Ghotki, Sukkur, Khairpur, Kashmore, Jacobabad, Shikarpur, Larkana, Qambar, Shahdadkot, Nowshera Feroze, Shaheed Benazir Abad, Mirpurkhas, Umerkot, Sanghar, Jamshoro, and Dadu. The system is expected to last until August 19th. Additionally, Tharparkar, Thatta, Badin, Hyderabad, Mirpurkhas, Tando Muhammad Khan, Kandhkot, Amari, and Sajawal are also forecasted to experience thunderstorms and strong winds.
The PMD cautions residents about potential hazards from heavy rain, strong winds, and lightning, which could damage roofs, walls, power poles, billboards, vehicles, and solar panels. Farmers are advised to take necessary precautions, and authorities are on high alert to manage any emergencies that may arise.
Balochistan Faces Rain and Wind
In Balochistan, the PMD predicts strong winds, thunderstorms, and heavy rain affecting areas including Quetta, Khuzdar, Kalat, Zhob, Barkhan, Sibi, Turbat, Nokundi, Dalbandin, Gwadar, and Jeewani.
Punjab Sees Sunshine and Clouds
In contrast, Lahore and other parts of Punjab are set to experience a mix of sunshine and clouds. Lahore’s temperature is currently 30°C, with a low of 29°C and a high expected to reach 34°C. Wind speeds are at 3 km/h, and humidity levels are around 90%. The chance of rain in Lahore today remains low.
