Karachi has experienced the coldest night of the winter season so far, with temperatures dipping to a chilly 8°C, marking a significant drop as the city ushers in the new year. According to the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD), this sharp dip in temperature is due to a cold wave from the north, bringing with it frigid air across the region.
The drop in temperature was particularly noticeable in the early hours of the morning, with residents across the city bundling up to brave the cold. While Karachi’s coastal climate typically keeps temperatures milder, this winter chill has caught many by surprise, especially after the warmer-than-usual end to 2024.
The cold spell is expected to continue over the next few days, with meteorologists predicting that temperatures could continue to hover between 8°C and 10°C, making it one of the coldest spells Karachi has seen in recent winters.
Residents have been advised to take precautions against the cold, especially in the mornings and late nights, when temperatures are at their lowest.
