The residents of Karachi will continue to experience gas load shedding throughout the upcoming month of Ramazan, as the Sui Southern Gas Company (SSGC) announced a new supply schedule on Wednesday. The company, however, assured domestic consumers of uninterrupted gas supply during Sehr and Iftar times.
Despite the end of the winter season, Karachiites have been struggling with irregular gas supply, often receiving little to no gas even during the notified hours. This situation has forced many consumers to either temporarily or permanently shift to expensive LPG for their daily cooking needs.
New Gas Load Shedding Schedule for Ramazan
An SSGC spokesman stated that the company aims to prioritize domestic consumers during Ramazan to ensure they have access to gas for meal preparations.
🔹 Gas Availability:
- 3:30 PM – 10:00 PM (Iftar & dinner preparation)
- 3:00 AM – 9:00 AM (Sehr & breakfast preparation)
🔹 Gas Suspension:
- 9:00 AM – 3:30 PM
- 10:00 PM – 3:00 AM
The spokesman cited a 10% annual depletion in the country’s gas reserves as a major reason for the widening gas demand-supply gap. To manage this crisis, SSGC will conduct gas pressure profiling between 9:00 AM – 3:30 PM and 10:00 PM – 3:00 AM throughout Ramazan.
He further emphasized that these adjustments have been made to ensure convenience for citizens during Sehr and Iftar.
However, many Karachi residents remain skeptical, as the city has faced persistent gas shortages despite previous assurances. With rising prices of LPG and alternate fuel sources, the situation poses serious challenges for households, especially those already struggling with inflation.
Residents now brace for a difficult Ramazan, hoping that SSGC’s new schedule will at least provide relief during the designated hours.
