Karachi: In a tragic incident, a 17-year-old boy lost his life while attempting to protect his neighbors from a robbery in Korangi’s Janjal Pura Goth on Wednesday. The teenager, Muzaffar Iqbal, was gunned down by robbers after he raised an alarm upon noticing them leaving a neighbor’s house following a theft.
This marks the third murder related to resistance against robbery in Karachi since the beginning of the year.
According to Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Kamran Khan, the incident occurred early in the morning when Muzaffar, returning home after offering morning prayers, saw the robbers exiting his neighbor’s house. “Muzaffar began shouting to prevent them from entering another house or escaping,” SSP Khan stated. In response, the robbers fatally shot him on the spot.
Police revealed that the robbers were planning to loot another house in the area but fled after killing the teenager.
The negligence of local law enforcement has drawn criticism, prompting SSP Kamran to suspend the Station House Officer (SHO) and Chowki in-charge of Zaman Town police station. Despite these measures, the perpetrators remain at large.
This is the latest in a string of violent incidents related to robberies in Karachi. On January 4, a man was shot dead for resisting a robbery within the same police jurisdiction, and on January 9, a resident of Steel Town, Arif, was killed while opposing bandits at Ghaghar Phatak.
The tragic death of Muzaffar Iqbal has left the community mourning and highlights the increasing risks faced by citizens trying to protect themselves and others in the face of rising street crimes.
