In a major step towards promoting clean energy and reducing carbon emissions, Karachi is set to launch electric vehicle (EV) taxis in the near future. The announcement was made by Sindh Information Minister Sharjeel Memon, who confirmed that the city will soon introduce a fleet of EV taxis to offer an eco-friendly transportation option to the public.
Speaking at a press conference, Memon highlighted the government’s commitment to green mobility and sustainable development. He stated, “Karachi is moving towards cleaner energy solutions, and the launch of EV taxis is a significant milestone in our efforts to reduce pollution and improve air quality in the city.”
The new fleet of EV taxis will operate across key areas of Karachi, with plans to expand the service based on demand. The initiative is part of the broader national strategy to encourage the use of electric vehicles and reduce the country’s reliance on fossil fuels.
The Sindh government has partnered with local and international stakeholders to ensure the successful implementation of the EV taxi project. Memon further mentioned that training programs for drivers and necessary infrastructure, such as charging stations, will be set up to support the smooth operation of the service.
This initiative is expected to contribute to a cleaner, more sustainable Karachi while providing an affordable transportation alternative for residents.
