Karachi: The newly launched E-Challan system by the Karachi Traffic Police has recorded a remarkable start, issuing fines worth Rs. 12.5 million within just six hours of its rollout on Wednesday.
According to officials, thousands of violations — including signal breaking, over-speeding, and lane violations — were detected through the city’s advanced camera network. The automated system immediately generated electronic challans linked to vehicle registration numbers, which were sent to violators via SMS and online portals.
Authorities said the initiative aims to promote road discipline, enhance transparency, and curb corruption by reducing direct human interaction in traffic enforcement.
DIG Traffic Ahmed Nawaz Cheema noted that the public’s cooperation will be key to ensuring the system’s long-term success. He also urged citizens to regularly check their challan status online to avoid penalties or license suspensions.
