Lollywood superstar Mahira Khan shared her heartfelt sentiments about her hometown, Karachi, during her appearance at the Aalami Urdu Conference. Speaking passionately about the city’s unique spirit of acceptance and diversity, Mahira described Karachi as the most tolerant city in Pakistan, a place where people are not judged based on their background or origin.
“Karachi gives so much; it welcomes you with open arms, but I don’t think we care for it enough,” Mahira remarked, emphasizing the importance of appreciating the city that has nurtured so many.
She further praised the city’s unmatched tolerance and inclusivity, which she has never experienced in any other place. “Karachi doesn’t judge where a person comes from,” said the actress, noting that the city is a true melting pot of diversity. Born and raised in Karachi, Mahira fondly recalled growing up surrounded by friends from various communities, including Hindu, Agha Khani, and Bohra backgrounds. For her, this diversity was simply a normal part of life.
The Raees star added that people from other cities are often surprised to learn about Karachi’s rich cultural mix, which she considers to be the city’s essence. She further likened Karachi to other cosmopolitan port cities around the world, where diversity is naturally embraced.
On a more critical note, Mahira pointed out two issues she believes need attention. She expressed a longing for Karachi to experience all four seasons in full bloom, wishing the city’s warm climate could offer more variety. Additionally, she observed that residents often fail to take proper care of Karachi, despite all that the city offers. “People don’t take care of Karachi as much as the city takes care of its people,” she said, urging the citizens to show more appreciation for the city.
Mahira’s reflections serve as a reminder to honor the city that has long been a beacon of tolerance, diversity, and opportunity, while also highlighting the need for greater care and respect for its beauty and significance.
