In a historic move, the Karakoram Highway (KKH), one of the world’s highest paved international roads, will remain open throughout the winter for the first time. This decision comes after a joint effort by the Pakistan and Chinese governments to boost trade and tourism between the two countries.
The KKH, which connects Pakistan and China, typically closes from December to March due to heavy snowfall and harsh weather conditions. However, the governments have invested in infrastructure upgrades and snow-clearing operations to ensure year-round accessibility.
This development is expected to significantly enhance trade relations between the two countries, as well as promote tourism in the region. The KKH passes through some of the world’s most stunning scenery, including the Karakoram mountain range and the Khunjerab Pass, the highest paved border crossing in the world.
The opening of the KKH in winter is a major milestone for both Pakistan and China, and is expected to have a positive impact on the economies of both countries.
