Karachi, October 13, 2024 – Pakistan’s cricket team has suffered a major setback ahead of the second Test against England, as star players Shaheen Afridi and Babar Azam have been ruled out due to injuries.
Shaheen Afridi, the left-arm pacer and a crucial figure in Pakistan’s bowling attack, has been sidelined with a knee issue. His absence leaves a significant void in Pakistan’s fast bowling unit, particularly given his ability to generate pace and bounce in English conditions.
Babar Azam, the team’s captain and premier batsman, will also miss the match due to a shoulder injury sustained during the first Test. His leadership and batting prowess have been central to Pakistan’s success, and his absence is expected to create a void both in the dressing room and at the crease.
The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) confirmed the injuries and assured that both players will undergo treatment and rehabilitation in a bid to return for the remaining matches of the series.
This news comes as a huge blow to Pakistan’s preparations for the second Test, which is set to begin next week. The team will now look to other experienced players, including the likes of Mohammad Rizwan and Abdullah Shafique, to step up in the absence of their key players.
With both Afridi and Azam missing, the onus will be on Pakistan’s remaining squad members to perform under pressure against a strong English side, who are looking to bounce back after their loss in the opening Test.
