A senior leader of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has stated that the release of party chairman Imran Khan is contingent on the resolution of legal cases related to the May 9 incidents. The remarks came during a press conference on Wednesday, where the leader emphasized the importance of fair legal proceedings for the former Prime Minister.
The May 9 cases pertain to allegations of vandalism and arson following Khan’s arrest earlier this year, which sparked nationwide protests. Several PTI members have faced charges in connection with the unrest, with authorities linking the incidents to party-led instigation.
“Our chairman’s release depends entirely on these politically motivated cases. Justice must prevail, and we hope the judiciary will ensure an impartial verdict,” the PTI leader said, accusing the government of using the cases as a tool for political victimization.
Imran Khan has been in custody since his arrest on corruption charges, with multiple court hearings resulting in varying legal outcomes. PTI continues to claim that these actions are part of a broader crackdown on political dissent.
As legal proceedings continue, the party has called for peaceful demonstrations and international attention to what they describe as a “worsening human rights situation” in Pakistan.
